The story of Recycling in San Francisco

San Francisco is a leader in being “green” in every way.  From Green technology companies to seeking out organic foods to recycling and waste management, you
can count on San Franciscans to always be looking forward.  It’s still impressive, however, that in San Francisco over 80% of waste is recycled, reused, restored, and does not make it to the landfill.  That is an impressive feat that involves public policy, public participation and successful planning and logistics in waste management.

We are proud to present to you this program we created, which aired on CBS and ABC on Sunday,  showing exactly what goes in to all the recycling in San Francisco, the Greenest city in America.

Live at the Announcement of the Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows Merge

Only hours ago it was announced that Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Ski Resorts have merged. The Big Picture is thrilled to be responsible for the satellite uplink providing live coverage of this historic event! George and Abel are hard at work, maneuvering on chairlifts to get the best possible footage. With this announcement comes the exciting news that for a single lift ticket guests will now be able to enjoy over 6,000 skiable acres across eight mountain peaks with a top elevation of 9,000 feet! Not only will guests have access to greater skiable terrain, the merge also includes an improvement plan offering more amenities. Included in this plan is the promise of two new chairlifts, a new village restaurant and bar, a snow board demo and rental center, a day lodge and a family recreation center. We love summer but with this news we’re ready to trade in our flip flops for snow boots!

For more information about the merge click here.

The Coolest Talk Show You’ve Never Heard Of

After watching the success of such figures as Oprah, Dr.Phil, Maury and Ricki Lake, who hasn’t dreamed of hosting their own talk show? Luckily for George Lang this dream became a reality when he got the chance to host a talk show of his own.

Since nobody had anything to do during the day, like work or go to school, his early afternoon show was an obvious hit.  On a set they built themselves walked the likes of prominent community figures like the head of the library and the “how to keep your family safe” police officer you can see pictured below. Everyday George got to wear a flashy new tie sponsored by Ernst Ties, who of course got full credit. To lure in viewers the show had an amazing and exciting daily contest, whose terms we fail to remember. We couldn’t, however, forget what the grand prize was.  New potholders! A prize indicated beneath the Almanac sign on the set, but due to having no mail budget if you wanted them you had to come get them yourself. Memories like these help to reinstill the life old lesson of never forgetting where you came from.

The Big Picture Supports Rita Moreno in Her “Happily Divorced” Role

Like most of the world, we recognize Rita Moreno for her talents as an actor. Having won the Emmy, a Grammy, the Oscar, and a Tony she has gained our respect as a performer. We would also like to recognize her support of The Big Picture and her ongoing commitment to enriching the artistic community and the community at large.

Earlier this year Rita volunteered her time and support to The Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, not only as a spokesperson but in the production of The Big Picture’s  promotional video for The Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. So far her efforts have helped to raise over $200,000 to help fund arts education programs throughout the local community. We thank Rita Moreno for her ongoing support to the community and The Big Picture, and encourage everyone to watch her latest role in the TV Land sitcom Happily Divorced. In her role as Fran Drescher’s mother she proves once again she is not only talented, she is hilarious!

Click the image below for a sneak peek of  Happily Divorced and tune in to TV Land every Wednesday at 10:30 PM to watch Rita do what she does best!

Mammoth Mountain Live Shot 2/24/11

Yesterday was the first live shot from McCoy Station at Mammoth Mountain Ski resort.  We just finished installation of a new fiber optic link that allows the Mammoth satellite team to provide live shots from the midway point of the mountain.

It turned out great – look at the mountain and the sky!  This weather girl is a hoot as well.

George Lang risks life and limb for the perfect video

George Lang, our founder, President and resident DP is no stranger to adventure and perilous camera work.  He has taken footage underwater with sharks, dangling from a helicopter, in the line of fire in Rwanda – you could definitely throw around some adjectives here such as fearless, audacious, daring and also just plain nuts.

But lo and behold, we send him out to the Ice Rink in Union Square, and he comes back like this!

George-Sling George-BigKnee

Luckily we know that George can get the job done blindfolded and with his arms tied behind his back, so we aren’t too worried.

Take a look at the final piece that we did for Mammoth Mountain for the grand opening of the holiday Ice Rink at Union Square – featuring Woolly the Mammoth.  See if you can spot George skating by.
