Lorin Rowan Duo

The Big Picture Film & Video Arts is truly blessed to be located here in Marin where there is a plethora of local musical talent.  We are having the Lorin Rowan duo perform during the dinner of an event we are producing, and we shot some video of them that we can display on the large screens to lead into their performance.

Lorin Rowan (of the Rowan Brothers) gave us some song to share with you here:

Circle of Friends – Lorin Rowan Duo

El Tropic – Lorin Rowan Duo

“Progressive Americana” is the music genre of Grammy singer/songwriter Lorin Rowan’s finger pickin’ acoustic roots in folk/rock and world music, complemented with his clear tenor vocal, and backed by virtuoso cellist/vocalist, Doug Harman (Norton Buffalo, Alex DeGrassi) . The combination of these two musicians and their unique instrumentation, together create a fresh, exciting sound with powerful melodies and intriguing lyrics, mixing styles from Folk, Rock, Classical, Reggae, Country, and Brazilian.

Pablo Cruise – Memorial Day Concert

A lot of famous rockstars live in Marin and the San Francisco North Bay, and we are very fortunate to intimately know Pablo Cruise.  They are good old friends of George Lang’s, and various members stop by the office barbeques and we even get Cory Lerios to score for us when we need music that has beauty, drama, and power in one of our videos.

So it’s a sad day today to note that original bassist/vocalist Bud Cockrell passed away yesterday.  In honor of his memory, the guys are going to get together for a special concert event up at Rancho Nicasio on May 31st for a special tribute day of stories and songs.

Rancho Nicasio is west of 101 north at the Lucas Valley turn off in San Rafael, about a half hour from that turn off.   Pretty simple and a beautiful ride through the redwoods, for those of you that have never been there.   They have a great menu and it’s a good place to cut loose.  They are going to play at 4:00 pm.  You can call to make a reservation at  415-662-2219.

And, you’re urged to check out   www.Budcockrell.com to see some of the letters people have written in and some of Bud’s music is there to hear.  It’s really great stuff.

The Big Picture on the music scene

In going through our flickr tags, you may notice that we have had the opportunity to work with a lot of musicians over the years.  You can see our blog posts that are music-related in the musicians category.

You can find behind the scenes pictures of Metallica, Ray Manzarek, Van Halen, Rodrigo & Gabriella, One Republic and more.

We must give credit where it is due, and state that one of the nicest bands we have had the pleasure of interviewing and shooting recently was One Republic.  They were so kind and funny and everyone from the shoot reported back that they were just a delight to work with.  Not to mention, incredibly talented!  They just released some dance mixes of “All the Right Moves”, which you can check out here on Amazon.com

Here are some great pictures of George, Claudia, Teall, and Abel with One Republic and few others form our flickr “musician video shoots” stream

Hope for Haiti Now – An Inspiring Success

The Hope for Haiti Celebrity Telethon last Friday came together with urgency at the suggestion of George Clooney, but  the amount of effort that was put forth by all involved resulted in a spectacular event that reached millions of viewers.

It was an honor for The Big Picture to donate our video and audio equipment and time and services to pull together this amazing feat of philanthropic broadcasting, which was shown not only across all major networks, but all over the world.

The effort was well worth it as not only did we have the opportunity to work with some talented industry people, including Matt Damon and Clint Eastwood, but the event itslef was a huge success, raising over $60 million dollars in aid to help those in need in Haiti.

The Big Picture contributes to Hope for Haiti Celebrity Telethon

It’s hard to know where to start to help the relief effort in Haiti.  News of the devastation has been overwhelming.  It is wonderful to see so many different people rise to the occasion and lead their community in raising funds and awareness.

Hope for Haiti is an organization that has been trying to make a difference in Haiti for over 20 years.  The level of outreach and support they provide covers clean water, education, medical services, and emergency relief.

We are pleased to offer our video production services tomorrow for the live broadcast of the Hope for Haiti celebrity telethon, organized by George Clooney.  This event is bringing together many celebrities and tomorrow we will be contributing our equipment and services for the live interviews with Matt Damon and Clint Eastwood.  Contributing with us is Oakland Audio Visual Services, and Neil Tanner, Inc.

As the crisis continues, more celebrity and networks are joining the cause, with the telethon set to broadcast for free across all major networks including: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and CNN; and also on BET, the CW, HBO, MTV, VH1, and CMT.

We are thrilled to donate our time and services to this event and we hope that the outcome is a huge amount of funds for those that are suffering in this horrific Quake.

Jay Maisel Documentary

Jay Maisel has been a fixture on the New York Art scene since the 50′s. He has a huge body of work that encompasses 13 books and 15 one-man shows.  He is known for his richly saturated, vibrant images that poignantly capture moments involving man, city, light and movement.  He has won several awards including the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame, American Society of Media Photographers’ Photographer of the Year Award and the International Center of Photography’s Infinity Award.

We took the approach of a Day in the Life of Jay Maisel, and followed him and his camera (which is perpetually at his side) around New York City.  We were able to expose the history of the famous Bowery building which he purchased in Manhattan as his creative space.

We were amused by his practical approach to technology and digital photography – the more he could shoot in one go and carry with him the better! – and we were honored to be invited into his inspiring world of art.
