We can’t think of a better opportunity to be surrounded by legends of broadcast than at The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences San Francisco/California Chapters’ Gold & Silver Circle “Class of 2011” Induction Luncheon. This Saturday George stood amongst his idols, mentors and peers to help honor this year’s inductees for their contributions to Northern California television. George had the honor of being a presenter and inducting the wonderful Suzanne Saunders Shaw. We were also excited to see the Steve Davis Under- Graduate Overall Excellence Scholarship awarded to Mario Ayala from the College of San Mateo and the Jerry Jensen Graduate Overall Excellence Scholarship awarded to Paul Meyers from Stanford University. We are proud to contribute to the future of media creators and look forward to working with the next generation of broadcast journalists in the years to come.
The Big Picture takes home two Emmy® awards
Posted by TheBigPicture in Awards, Events on June 21, 2011
We are so pleased and honored to have taken home two Emmy® awards this year– Chris Roy for Editing “Jay Maisel”, and George Lang for Directing “Jay Maisel”.
This piece is a great example of an American corporation aligning itself with a recognized award-winning artist to tell his story. Rather than use the time for a major commercial push, they chose to tell the story of the artist, and thus conveyed that this alignment message was about quality in the person and the company recognizing that person. This ended up being the most powerful message that there can be.
Below are some images of George and Chris accepting their awards. Congratulations guys!
The Big Picture has created two scholarships with Emmy San Francisco
Posted by TheBigPicture in Awards, Philanthropic on May 11, 2011
The Big Picture Film & Video Arts is honored to have created two $3,000 video production scholarships through the San Francisco chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to be awarded to one outstanding undergraduate student and one outstanding graduate student.
These scholarships have been created in the names of Jerry Jensen and Steve Davies. Two colleagues of George Lang, with whom he worked at KGO-TV with for many years.
George says, “Jerry was a mentor to me from the time I was 20 years old and helped me with my career throughout his life. Steve Davis and I worked closely together through the tumultuous 80s and all the major news stories that Steve was assigned to. There was no better journalist and one of few who fought for principles.”
