Live shot with the Hot Hot Heat and the 22-20s

We did another shoot for a musical live stream yesterday – of the post-punk/new wave revivalist band  Hot Hot Heat and the blues/rock influenced 22-20s.  We love working with musicians and it’s always a treat to be a part of an intimate performance such as this, where we can witness the creativity up close and personal, and capture it.

Capturing Damian Marley’s live freestyle

The Big Picture shot a live Q & A yesterday of Reggae artist Damian Marley.  Holding a tablet, he viewed and answered questions from fans that were posting to the chat board.

Damian, as you can guess, is the son of Bob Marley and an accomplished grammy-award winning musician in his own right.   In the video you can see him discuss his upcoming musical projects as well as plans to visit Africa.

You can view the archived video here at Ustream: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/8971387

Presenting … Dick Bright

Dick Bright is a talented musician and band leader that we have worked with for many years.  His classy Dick Bright Orchestra has been a part of several high profile events that we’ve produced.  I dug up some pictures from the archives, he’s no joke with that fiddle!

There’s a funny story to how we found out about him.  As luck would have it, several years ago George saw him playing at the Pelican Inn one night with his old friend Lorin Rowan, and it turns out they live just a few blocks away from each other! What are the chances?  Well they are great friends now and we are always big fans around here as well.

Check out this article in the SF Chronicle from last month! http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/05/19/DDL81D3QVV.DTL

One of his many band projects, “Club 90” has a show this Saturday, we hope to see you there!

Lorin Rowan Duo

The Big Picture Film & Video Arts is truly blessed to be located here in Marin where there is a plethora of local musical talent.  We are having the Lorin Rowan duo perform during the dinner of an event we are producing, and we shot some video of them that we can display on the large screens to lead into their performance.

Lorin Rowan (of the Rowan Brothers) gave us some song to share with you here:

Circle of Friends – Lorin Rowan Duo

El Tropic – Lorin Rowan Duo

“Progressive Americana” is the music genre of Grammy singer/songwriter Lorin Rowan’s finger pickin’ acoustic roots in folk/rock and world music, complemented with his clear tenor vocal, and backed by virtuoso cellist/vocalist, Doug Harman (Norton Buffalo, Alex DeGrassi) . The combination of these two musicians and their unique instrumentation, together create a fresh, exciting sound with powerful melodies and intriguing lyrics, mixing styles from Folk, Rock, Classical, Reggae, Country, and Brazilian.

Pablo Cruise – Memorial Day Concert

A lot of famous rockstars live in Marin and the San Francisco North Bay, and we are very fortunate to intimately know Pablo Cruise.  They are good old friends of George Lang’s, and various members stop by the office barbeques and we even get Cory Lerios to score for us when we need music that has beauty, drama, and power in one of our videos.

So it’s a sad day today to note that original bassist/vocalist Bud Cockrell passed away yesterday.  In honor of his memory, the guys are going to get together for a special concert event up at Rancho Nicasio on May 31st for a special tribute day of stories and songs.

Rancho Nicasio is west of 101 north at the Lucas Valley turn off in San Rafael, about a half hour from that turn off.   Pretty simple and a beautiful ride through the redwoods, for those of you that have never been there.   They have a great menu and it’s a good place to cut loose.  They are going to play at 4:00 pm.  You can call to make a reservation at  415-662-2219.

And, you’re urged to check out   www.Budcockrell.com to see some of the letters people have written in and some of Bud’s music is there to hear.  It’s really great stuff.

The Big Picture on the music scene

In going through our flickr tags, you may notice that we have had the opportunity to work with a lot of musicians over the years.  You can see our blog posts that are music-related in the musicians category.

You can find behind the scenes pictures of Metallica, Ray Manzarek, Van Halen, Rodrigo & Gabriella, One Republic and more.

We must give credit where it is due, and state that one of the nicest bands we have had the pleasure of interviewing and shooting recently was One Republic.  They were so kind and funny and everyone from the shoot reported back that they were just a delight to work with.  Not to mention, incredibly talented!  They just released some dance mixes of “All the Right Moves”, which you can check out here on Amazon.com

Here are some great pictures of George, Claudia, Teall, and Abel with One Republic and few others form our flickr “musician video shoots” stream

Benefit for Angeline Saris

Good friend of the Big Picture and talented bassist, Angeline Saris, was hospitalized in November for a blood clot formed in her left arm as a result of playing bass.  To assist her with medical bills, there is a benefit on Saturday Feb 13th at the Sleeping Lady Cafe in Fairfax, and we encourage everyone to come and support her.

Please view the flier below for more information, and scroll down further to see the “Rocker Girls” video, in which she plays bass with our resident Producer/Editor Claudia Lang.

One Republic – The Big Picture Interview

Musical group “One Republic” blew up last year with album dreaming outloud, with a breakout remix of “Too late to appologize” by top hip hop producer Timbaland.  We spent some time at their concert at the Independent in San Francisco and got them back stage for a short video interview which covered their musical backgrounds, a few musician’s jokes, and an update on their upcoming album.
